Your options and career development
Summer Internships
Quote from a previous intern:
"I have been able to sit in on some meetings with managers from around the world, which has been an amazing opportunity. I felt part of the team from day one. I am treated as if I were a full-time employee, with real responsibilities and the opportunity to develop relationships with clients."
HSBC offers summer internships to both analysts and MBA associates.
Summer Analyst Programme
An investment banking summer internship at HSBC is the only way to experience what it is like to work in a world-class financial organisation. Open to penultimate year students, this structured 10-week programme will give you the opportunity to demonstrate your capabilities and make a valuable contribution to transactions, while your progress is regularly monitored.
Expect an exciting summer consisting of business briefings, workshops and social events. Afterwards, you will be perfectly placed to take your career further. It is no surprise that most of our summer interns are offered analyst positions after graduation.
We assess and offer places on an ongoing basis so, to avoid disappointment, we recommend that you complete your application as soon as possible.
We also request that you apply for only one investment banking internship in one location per recruitment year so, please research our range of programmes fully before making an informed decision.
Criteria:
This Summer Analyst Programme is open to those in their penultimate year of university study (due to graduate in 2012). You do not need to be studying a particular subject, however, you do need:

Summer Associate Programme
The only way to gain an insight into what it's like to work for one of the world's largest banking and financial services organisations is to experience it firsthand. Joining us as an investment banking associate for an intense 10-week period over the summer is one of the best ways for first-year MBA students to function as a full-time banker and get to know our business and culture.
After initial training, in Global Banking, you will join one of our sector or advisory teams and contribute to ongoing live transactions and origination efforts. In Global Markets, you will join one of our Global Markets desks and gain exposure to a wide range of products in all asset classes. You will be given full support, working closely with experienced professionals who will act as your mentors. An intense experience coupled with a busy calendar of social events will enable you to build a network with fellow summer associates and senior bankers.
This is the kind of experience that cannot be gained from textbooks. You will be perfectly placed to take your career further – and, if successful, may even be offered a full-time position on completion of your MBA.
Criteria:
This investment banking Summer Associate Programme is open to first-year MBA students at a recognised business school. Your profile should demonstrate:
- An exceptional academic record
- A deep interest in the global financial services industry
- Business fluency in other key languages is highly desirable
